I have been working as a freelance simultaneous interpreter for the EU institutions since 2002. During my university studies in the nineties, I discovered my passion for yoga at the annual Krishnamurti gatherings in Switzerland. I started off exploring many different yoga teachers, which led to my first teacher training course in Viniyoga in Belgium. Then, in India, in 2005, I discovered the teacher who inspired me the most: Master Sharat Arora, a direct student of B.K.S. Iyengar. For nine years, I spent one month each year at his Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre, following intensive courses, therapy classes, and finally, his teacher training course.
Before I began practicing Yoga as taught at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre, I had a history of recurring back pain due to a lower back injury that happened when pushing too fast, too far into a forward bend. This led me to explore therapeutic yoga, including repetitive Viniyoga sequences. However, it wasn’t until I discovered the rigorous practice developed by Master Sharat Arora that lasting healing occurred. Thanks to his method, I have been completely free from back pain for more than two decades.
My practice is deeply rooted in the rigorous, therapeutic methodology developed by Master Sharat Arora, founder of the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre. Having spent seven years studying directly with B.K.S. Iyengar—assisting with medical and therapeutic classes—Sharat refined a method focused on meticulous anatomical precision, adapted specifically for healing.
Rather than forcing the body into shapes or using a fitness-focused workout, his method places a heavy focus on exact bone alignment, in particular through the precise placement, weight distribution, and awareness of the feet. This naturally decompresses the spine and corrects long-standing postural habits. As in traditional Iyengar Yoga, his approach uses props to meet your body exactly where it is. Flexibility or youth is not a prerequisite. Instead, his methodology is engineered to correct structural misalignment, thereby helping individuals suffering from chronic back pain, joint issues, or any other physical injuries at every stage of life. I am happy to introduce you to this practice, as taught at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre, here in the broader area of Villars.
